Gave up. While it was interesting at the beginning, the book starts to dig deeper and deeper in a gay analysis of an old movie (Mommie Dearest) for which I have no interest. While a bit might be interesting, I stopped after 5 chapters about this film. While I was expecting a sociological study of the gay male, this ends up being more a literal analysis of an opus through the eyes of gay men than about gay men themselves. Stopped after 300 pages, couldn't pursue any longer
